New(ish) look Neighbours.

> Quicktime H.264

(2.9mb progressive)

Neighbours, the great Australian soap, got a revamp today. Ratings were dropping, and with the BBC not willing to pay £300m for an eight year contract I guess they decided it was time something was done.

The new look has a few new faces, loses a few old faces, will tone down the crazy storylines, and hopefully start to “look” a lot better now that its all being shot in HD.

If breakfast cereal ran a television station.

Weetabix, a British cereal (Weetbix for the Australian readers) has just launched a new campaign were it positions itself more as a television station then a snack food.

The ads are designed to resemble television idents, and asks the viewer “whats on Weetabix?” while recommending various toppings. See more of the campaign on the official website at weetabix.tv.

While this isn’t an official ident for any station, I recently featured a Cadbury’s ad being played on SBS that comes pretty close.

Channel 9 is no longer the one, the dramatic fall, the “spiritual death” if you will of Australia’s once favourite television network is the subject of Gerald Stone’s new book, Who Killed Channel 9? The Death of Kerry Packer’s Dream Machine.

Stone was on this mornings Weekend Sunrise talking about the book, the possible movie adaptation, morale at Nine and why it matters who owns and runs our television broadcasters.

The Simpson’s have made their idents debut! Just a few hours ago this Gracie Films (shhh) produced trail made its first run on Channel 4 in the UK.

As reported by the BBC, the ident is timed for the start of a new season on Channel 4, and of course the families upcoming feature length outing.

Check out all the C4 idents here, and The Killers own ident here.

This isn’t the first time The Simpson’s have collaborated with Channel 4 though, to download Marge’s alternative Christmas message from 2004, keep reading..

The Great Global Warming Simulcast.

The Great Global Warming Swindle, a controversial documentary that disputes the popular belief over climate change is being aired on the ABC tonight, as well as being simulcast on ABC2 and NewsRadio.

For whatever reason the ABC is playing this documentary, at least they aren’t presenting it in isolation. It will be introduced by Lateline presenter Tony Jones, followed by interview by Jones with the films director, Martin Durkin and then a panel discussion.

I’m looking forward to the Tony Jones interview, which will hopefully question Durkin’s own motives throughly enough to compensate for the film being played in the first place.

I feel like I’ve been talking about morning television a lot lately, or maybe just even a little of it is too much for me. Either way, here is the open to this mornings Kerri Anne, and her less then ceremonious entrance to her 1000th episode.
