What journalists will do for money.

After the response to my Today Tonight post I thought I’d upload the ACA opener. Living in Canberra, TT and ACA don’t clash, so I get a full hour of wasted primetime from 6.30 every night.

Seeing as I recorded A Current Affair tonight I thought I’d watch a bit, and it didn’t dissapoint! It was textbook crap, starting with a great story about angry parents fighting bureaucracy (there’s that word), followed by a dogdy removalist, followed by a hidden camera expose on fish, and it all ended by giving us all some false hope about how “you too can win millions from competitions” if you just enter heaps of times.

You sit up here, and you read the bloody autocue!

Words can’t really describe my contempt for shows like Today Tonight, and you’re either going to agree or disagree with me… they pander, incite misguided anger, give misguided hope, and above all waste 60 minutes of primetime television every night.

I don’t claim to be a journalist (and my minor in journalism hardly qualifies me), but I can’t comprehend how any legitimate journalist could happily work for Today Tonight or A Current Affair.

(And if you haven’t heard it already, here is Naomi’s rant.. language warning)

Even Media Watch got a run on Today Tonight earlier this month, the above video is Attard’s response during last nights show.

Attard has taken over from Jackson this year on Media Watch and while its the same theme music, and follows a similar idea, its a whole new set of faces, and a whole new set.

I posted video of last seasons opener here.

Along with the refreshed Nine network came these new warnings. I’m still looking for something R rated to record, will upload soon I hope. But as it turns out we don’t air R rated programs on Australian TV, that probably explains my difficulty in finding an R rated warning (thanks Brendan).

More interestingly though if you haven’t been to Yahoo lately your in for a surprise, the rebranded portal is now Yahoo7, a joint venture between 7 and Yahoo Australia.

Given that potentially everything could change on Monday with the arrival of Jessica Rowe to the Today show I thought I’d upload a collection of stuff I grabbed from the Friday’s last pre-Rowe show.

I’ve never liked the graphics on the Today show, especially the weather which has a horrible blue-to-orange gradient in place of the ocean.

The EPG

epgs

All networks in Australia, except the ABC broadcast Electronic Program Guides on Digital TV. For some reason SBS is the only network that broadcasts their EPG in Canberra, on my trip to Sydney however I managed to grab samples from the other three EPG’s.

SBS is my favourite of the bunch (check out their old EPG here). I don’t mind the Seven and Nine EPG’s and the Ten one looks good too but it so horribly out of date its embarrasing. They have icons promoting shows that aren’t on anymore, they have photos of Neighbours cast that have left the show, and I thought Australian Idol was over? Its as if Network Ten don’t realise their even broadcasting it.

This is a fantastic BBC Two ident, the execution of the idea is really well done, and the burning BBC Two logo in the corner at the end is a nice touch too. This is the ident that ran before last weeks Top Gear and the opening sequence of that has been included.

And for those of us in Australia, Top Gear starts tonight on SBS so hopefully this will pique your interest for it.
