Hey yeah, something to say.

Al Harding, the composer and singer of “Light My Way”, the song that accompanies the latest ABC promos has left a comment on this blog, its been left in the original post about the song, and I thought I’d share it with you here. He writes;

Hey Guys,

I have just read your collective kind remarks re my song
‘Light my way”. I can’t believe how much interest it has created. I wish all my clients were as happy, as I spend most of my time composing Film and TV music that goes pretty much un-noticed, or at least un-appreciated !
You have rekindled my enthusiasm to write more songs, so
thanks to you all, particulary for being so passioniate about music !

Al Harding’s website can be found here, and as for those of us who’d like a copy of the song, he says;

“I’m not sure how I will go with providing copies for those interested, as it was commissioned especially for the ABC, but I’m working on it…”

“Laughter Echoes” – spicks and specks, enough rope, the chaser’s war on everything etc.

The sleeper hit of 2006 (the ‘Garden State‘ of idents if you will) on this site has got to have been the ABC 2006 promos featuring the specially commissioned song ‘Light my way’ by Al Harding. More people have found this website through Google searching “this is where your world starts spinning”, then any other phrase, it even beat “tv idents”.

I think its a brillant song, I’m wondering if there is a full version or if we’re just hearing as much of the song that was written, either way I’d love to hear an original, unedited rendition, if for no other reason then so I can get over it. My sponteneous melodic break outs of “hey yeah, light my way” still gets very odd looks from people.

I can’t imagine any other network going to trouble of actually commissioning a song to be written, if it was on the commercials we’d probably of just got something from the Pussycat Dolls.

Thanks ABC, and thanks Al Harding, you’ve made it a great start to the year.

The West Wing. My 100th post.

I was just about to post video from tonights National Nine News when I noticed that I was up to post number 99, so I thought I’d post something a bit more momentus and self indulgent (..as opposed to this whole blog).

I was saving these for a special occasion, and I guess this will do. I can’t wait for the ABC to start airing West Wing and you can just tell they’re as excited about getting the show as its fans.

When I saw the first few seconds of this Australia Day ident I thought I was in for just another rendition of ‘Advance Australia Fair’, I’m so glad it didn’t work out that way.

And for those of you who don’t get the reference… click here.

Exercise your imagination II

I saw the first one of these back in August and I really liked it. This was before ABC relaunched and I was hoping they might adopt this idea for the whole networks branding. This new one is only slightly different, but still enjoyable and brilliantly made.

Podcasting is one of those “beautiful” technologies that can really thrive and benefit on a public broadcaster. At the moment Ross and Terri and Harry Shearer’s Le Show is the only thing I’m subsribed too, but when normal programming resumes I try to catch Hack and Sunday Night Safran as well.

The ABC has been really forward in promoting it on the radio but this was the first time I’d seen a TV promo for it, simple but cool.

These are ABC’s promo’s for all the new shows coming up in 2005, I really like the song, but have no idea what it is.

I’m hoping there’s another one of these out there featuring West Wing, I can’t wait to see how ABC promote it.

I actually first heard about this ident from you, my readers before I even saw it on TV, and its really really good, I think its actually better then the other new ABC 60 second promo. I think the ‘radioscape’ (pictured above) on the beach is the best part of it.

It also makes reference to the ‘push red’ function on digital TV’s so perhaps ABC will start introducing some interactive content soon.

When the ABC gets festive

Before the ABC changed over all their idents this was the Christmas ident they were using for 2005, nothing special, but very ABC if you will. (This video starts with the new ‘coming up’ menu from the ABC as well).

After the change the ABC started to use this tweaked version of it, I’m not in love with it, but its not bad.

There seem to be quite a few of these new ABC idents, and here are just a few I’ve got already. I really like the 60 second ident (previous post), I just hope ABC don’t make hundreds of them like they did with the ‘Everyones’ campaign, just make enough good ones that we don’t get bored.

The video for the frisbee ident also includes the new ‘warning’ for an M rated program, it kind of reminds me of the UKTV warnings.
