In January this year I posted a series of ABC promos with a catchy tune called ‘Light My Way’. The awesome series was showing off the years upcoming attractions on the ABC.

“This is where your world starts spinning” quickly became the most searched term to find this site, and after somewhat confusingly refering to them as the the Garden State of idents the man behind the song commented in response to the collective kind remarks made about his work.

Well the ABC is back at it, this month running two new promos featuring the track, unfortunately only one of them with his vocals, nonetheless they are both visually and musically brilliant.

This weeks lesson: overstatement

The Chaser returned tonight in excellent form after a fortnight off, this weeks lesson about current affairs show was all about the hyperbole they use…

Australia’s parking vultures, see how they methodically herd innocent motorists into their ambush zone, and once you leave your car they take it and hold you to ransom.

Or, the women who says her councils zoning decisions make her feel like she is living in Idi Amin’s Africa.

Admittadly I’ve never lived in an area that was under council rule (just self government), but I can’t imagine its anything like the murder and torture of half a million people, by a a self proclaimed ‘King of Scotland’ and apparent cannibal who “brought bloody tragedy and economic ruin to his country, during a selfish life that had no redeeming qualities.”

A new promo for the upcoming months programming on ABC. I like it, my only complaint would be the music.. Which isn’t that bad, its just that I got Hoppípolla by Sigur Rós off iTunes tonight (its the music used for the BBC’s promo of Planet Earth) and its the kind of music that makes you question why stuff that good isn’t used at every opportunity.

Tonights episode of The West Wing won an Emmy for outstanding directing for a drama series and also happens to be the first episode I ever saw of the show. Because the ABC is airing two episodes at once viewers are in the unique situation of watching the finale of season four and the start of season five in one sitting tonight.

Basically the Presidents daughter has just been kidnapped and enacting the 25th Amendment he removes himself from office, and because there is no vice president the Republican speaker of the house takes over as president.

The first video is a promo for tonights episode, and the second is the end of last weeks episode along with those dual credits.

(Last time the 25th was used was in 2002 when Cheney took over the powers of the president while Bush got a colonoscopy).

It may have been a ‘Best Of’ episode, but the Chaser certainly gave us a reason to watch this week. Immigration Minister Amanda Vanstone played the role of bookends to this weeks episode with her intro and outro (edited together above).

The show may not be getting Wedge-esque ratings, but its certainly being watched by some people who matter. Its definitely starting to play the role of an “Australian Daily Show” for our political/media scene.

In this week’s Chaser they did a hilarious bit that showed off a mock ABC nude calendar, the public’s reaction was priceless, and I was actually really surprised with the quality of the design of the calander (as well as the pictures). I got an email yesterday with this excerpt from the SMH that might imply we could be seeing more of it;

The nude celebrity calendar featured in last week’s episode of The Chaser’s War on Everything could hit bookshops next year. The calendar, which featured the faces of such ABC personalities as Adam Hills, Jennifer Byrne, Andrew Denton and Margaret Pomeranz on nude portraits, was conceived as a TV stunt, but the Chaser team is contemplating publishing it as a real calendar.

The female bodies were supplied by models, but at least three of the male bodies belong to the Chaser team – Chas Licciardello stood in for Andrew Denton, Andrew Hansen for James O’Loughiin (pictured) and Craig Reucassel posed as himself. An insider told The Guide that consensus within the ABC is that Mr December, The 7.30 Report’s Kerry O’Brien, is ‘“the hottest”. His body was provided by an ABC staff member who wishes to remain anonymous.
