The ABC has certainly got alot of mileage out of Al Harding’s tune Light My Way. I’m glad that they’ve restrained its use to just these This is where it is promos though.

“The World Awakes” in this particular promo to The Next Mega Quake, Life and Times of El Nino, In Search of Myths and Heroes and Killer Ice.

I love triple j, its an incredible radio station, it has great talent, plays great music and was the former workplace of Chris and Craig from the Chaser. And now its becoming a line up of shows across ABC and ABC2. The shows will include:

> jtv (friday nights before rage)
“What does triple j look like? Get into the studio and watch interviews and songs performed live by bands. You’ll see profiles on your fav presenters – Jay & The Doctor, Robbie Buck, Myf Warhurst, Zan Rowe, Andrew Haug, Scott Dooley, Caroline Tran, Mel Bampton and Richard Kingsmill. Fridays will also include a Hack segment with Steve Cannane.”

> jtv saturday (9am-11am saturdays)
“Rosie Beaton counts down the top 20 most popular triple j songs of the week, as requested by you guys on Super Request. jtv saturday will also play special video requests, new releases and highlights from the Friday night show.”

> jtv XL (9pm tuesday on ABC2)
“It’s a bumper edition of jtv! Tune in for extended versions of jtv interviews, live music, concerts, docos, short films and animations.”

Along with jtv live, jtv docs and jtv comedy, and the pre-existing jmag its quite the brand extension. I’m sure my age has something to do with it, but I have such a connection with the radio station, I get almost all of my music from it, I get most of my current affairs from Hack, and my ringtone is their news theme. I’m really looking to forward to this.

While the first set of ABC promos for Planet Earth that aired last month featured the composition Jupiter by Gustav Holst (thanks Alan), the new one which I saw for the first time tonight has gone the way of the BBC and is now also using Hoppípolla by Sigur Rós.

I guess these promo making types must talk amongst themselves.

In January this year I posted a series of ABC promos with a catchy tune called ‘Light My Way’. The awesome series was showing off the years upcoming attractions on the ABC.

“This is where your world starts spinning” quickly became the most searched term to find this site, and after somewhat confusingly refering to them as the the Garden State of idents the man behind the song commented in response to the collective kind remarks made about his work.

Well the ABC is back at it, this month running two new promos featuring the track, unfortunately only one of them with his vocals, nonetheless they are both visually and musically brilliant.

It wasn’t too long ago that I showed you an ad from Digital UK introducing their mascot ‘Digit Al’ to spruik the benefits of digital television and get the minority of British households who hadn’t already jumped on the digital bandwagon to do so.

Well the BBC are at it again with their own promo, featuring some British celebrities that I can’t quite recognise talking about the benefits of switching.

How I wish the Australian digital television market hadn’t been legislatevly retarted by “the dead hands of a compliant government and too powerful media owners”, Crikey have some other good points in an article about the situation, which basically concludes that by pushing any real change back to 2012 is far too late, by which time we’ll all be downloading our shows (as if we’re not already), and commercial FTA will be screwed.

Australian’s love non-Australian content, there is nothing prolific to speak of being produced locally on commercial free to air, and with broadband not far from being in every persons house its no wonder we’re cutting out the middle man (the broadcaster), and finally taking control of when, how and what we watch on television.

A new promo for the upcoming months programming on ABC. I like it, my only complaint would be the music.. Which isn’t that bad, its just that I got Hoppípolla by Sigur Rós off iTunes tonight (its the music used for the BBC’s promo of Planet Earth) and its the kind of music that makes you question why stuff that good isn’t used at every opportunity.
