ABC Kids

Its not much, but then again it is for children, its a nice introduction to the lissajous for kids, and I do like the dropped ‘c’ in the logo.

Maybe one day it will be its own dedicated channel again.

Chris Taylor from the Chaser’s War trying to divorce his wife and make Mel and David very uncomfortable on a live (or is it?) Sunrise broadcast.

First Update: yep, it was staged.

Second Update: Listen to Chris Taylor talk to Robbie Buck on Triple J about it.

This week in current affairs shows: Part 7

chaser

> Quicktime Download in H.264 (74.7mb)
> iPod Compatible (31.8mb)
> RealPlayer Media (13.7mb)

This weeks lesson: cross promotions

It was the longest lesson ever this week breaking 5 minutes, and easily one of the funniest too. The three weeks off seem to have done the Chaser guys well.

If you missed it, here is part one, two, three, four, five and six.

Now & Then: Enough Rope

oldenough

> RealPlayer Media (2.5mb)

The first video is the current opener for Andrew Denton’s Enough Rope, the second video was captured in July last year, I’m not exactly sure how many times they’ve changed it, but I feel its more then just these two.

The ABC did special ANZAC Day idents again, they were good and it was nice of them to actually do something but I still last years will be hard to top.

When we were young and all the Rage

antonyrage

> Quicktime Download in H.264 (11mb)
> RealPlayer Media (2.4mb)

This video is a few weeks old now, but I so rarely see promo’s for Rage I thought I’d share.

The song in the promo is Hope There’s Someone by Antony and the Johnsons.

Speaking of ‘songs in promos’, Triple J have been promoting the crap out of Gnarls Barkley this week, they say they’re the only place in the world with the album and Myf Warhurst will be playing the entire thing back to back from noon today (as in right now).

There’s more to.. my new favourite one of these

abcpixels

> RealPlayer Media (872kb)

I know there is a heap of these new ABC idents I haven’t posted, but I really like this one, its better then a lot of the other frisbee-throwing, couch-sitting ones on air.

In ABC related news, Crikey is reporting that the ABC could be getting ready to license some of its content to a “third party website”, my first thought was iTunes (awesome!), but the article goes on to explain that “the license fee based on advertising revenue”, which would mean the repackaged content would come with some sort of advertising (not so awesome), and doesn’t sound like something that would happen on iTunes.

There’s more to.. deconstructing idents

commentary

> RealPlayer Media (2.3mb)
> Quicktime Download in H.264 (11.1mb)

I’ve just finished catching up on the last two episodes of The Chaser’s War on Everything, and thought this was really well done. Its just a mock directors commentary to one of the new ABC idents, its kind of similar to what Dead Ringers do in between sketches with BBC idents, but still cool, and its nice to know that we are not the only people who notice when idents change.
