Naomi Robson’s five minute farewell certainly was a tear jerker (for her at least), and the cavalcade of well wisher was certainly impressive.. Kerry Stokes, and um, Steve Vizard.
Kochie and Mel’s invite to drop by Sunrise reminded me how rarely we saw Naomi outside of TT’s studio cocoon, and may be the reason that its so laughable that someone as unrelatable and insular as Robson thinks she can be Australia’s Oprah.
In summary: Fuck the autocue, I need to save a child you dummies!

Well I don’t care because I never watch TT because I think it’s for dummies, not that am saying ACA is for smart people but they seem slightly more professional then TT. Any way what’s the music in the background at the end????
Naomi was great! And if you really believe she was “coccooned” in her studio then you cleary haven’t even watched the video you posted! All this business about never doing live interviews or leaving the studio is rubbish! Clearly you can see seh has run than gambet from presenting live from NY ground zero, to beaconsfield, to Melb cup every year and a myriad of others. She has done excellent live in studio interviews with Christine Nixon (VIC police commissioner), JOhn Howard, and others, as well as taped interviews with the hewitts, rex hunt, and even did one while on a drive with peter brock! It was, like the reports on her being a diva, rumours spread by nine and a few The Australian journalists who were out to get her. She has done dozen of interviews for magazines and papers, including New Idea this year and The Age (melbourne) magazine, she has featured in articles about good health, and how she is one of the most powerfull media figures in Melb. She is a regular at charity events in Melb, like McHappy day and the Royal Children’s Hospital Appeal. She is highly intelligent, witty, classy and funny. That so called abuse at a stage hand was not in fact abuse. She was not yelling at anyone, she was expressing her frustration at the auto cue problems, with a lot of profanity, to a stage hand who was completely agreeing with her. Why is none of this hatred directed at Tracy Grimshaw? If anything she has sold out more, she was Australia’s Barbara Walters, or at least close, untill joinin ACA, she is rarely out of the studio, and is so vein now she has a different hair colour each week! And The Age has even said tt is a slightly more serious product. Naomi has done an outstanding job this past decade, as Derryn Hinch said, 5 yrs in Melb and 5yrs National, and she has proven more popular than him. Obviously since the Melb edition of tt was slowly phased into being the east coast edition. Her goodbye could not have been more sincere and reports that the crew hate her were obviously wrong, at the end they all seemed genuine. Naomi you will be missed, I can’t wait to see your latest adventure.
Also as for the Steve Irwin shirt thing, she even has said she thought it was in poor taste and called the network to complain. And as she said, it was a shirt, get a life.

Well I can quite honestly say I have never seen a presenter get sent off in such a style as that! It was like a landmark occasion!

A good idea would be for Naomi to get a journalism degree…that is, if she would like a ‘new challenge’ by working in journalism
She is already an experienced journalist, haveing worked as a reporter for several papers and magazines here and in the UK and for 7News. Word is she will be gettin a talk show. When David Johnston retired from the 4.30 news he got a whole montage and speech like naomi and a double page spread in the age green guide.
David Johnstone was a iconic Journalist, not a trashy woman who’s career has been all about diet pills and dodge builders. I’m sorry nick but a fashion Magazine and Tabloid newspapers are not Journalistic material, Mabey if she had Worked at The Age or the New York times she could be called a journalist, but she didn’t, and her role with seven news was to read the 5 minute news on IMT with Steve Vizard, who constantly took the piss out of her, not a real presenting job…..
Some need training to be a Journalist, some don’t. Naomi is one that does.
And she is going on to a talk show, oh dear, that means Austrilia is getting there very own “Jermery Kyle Show”, may the spirts help us.

You have to respect she has slugged it out in one of tv’s hardest jobs for 10years. Anna Coren is a respected journalist, will you hate her too? And what about Tracy Grimshaw and Ray Martin, they did the same job on a shade worse show.
Naomi joined Seven News as a general news reporter in June 1990 and after just three weeks was asked by the network to present the news on Tonight Live, hosted by Steve Vizard.
Over the next few years she presented Seven’s Late News, the weekend editions of Seven News, reported for Real Life and hosted the summer edition of the show.
Naomi returned to Melbourne where in 1996 she fronted Our Victoria, a state-based travel program and later co-hosted Seven’s News At Five with Peter Ford.
In 1997 she took over the reins as host of Today Tonight in Melbourne, the only state-based public affairs program on television.
How exactly is hosting Today Tonight ‘one of tv’s hardest jobs’?
She sits there and reads an autocue for a few minutes a night!

Well, it doesn’t matter. There IS one thing that I admire about Naomi Robson:
She hung on for ten years.
That kind of loyalty is rare in this kind of world. Try the evening newscast on a broadcaster here in Toronto: Anchors have changed about three times over the past five years.
It is hard because she is contstantly under the microscope, looked down upon and criticised. And if you watch tha video you will see she does regular high profile in studio interviews.

I was recently in sydney and Naomi’s Version is far worse than the adelaide-based Leigh McLusky version, no matter how many hairdos she has! But overall, ACA better, though adelaide with Leigh McLusky (and I bet Perth’s with Monica Kos) are top Rating, And even I must admit, the PerthNNN newshour is pretty shite! But i Adelaide ,the NNN newshour with rob Kelvin, and Kevin Crease traditionally rated first, now rates second, losing to 7news at 6 with Jane Doyle and ex- weekender John Riddell ! AND THIER SET IS HORRIBLE!What happened to make Adelaides National Nine News lose to 7news as of late 2004. Could Deal really be so addictive?

John Howard, Rex Hunt & Christine Nixon are, and there were plently more over the years. I have seen Adelaide’s 7news and it is so superioir to NNN. Nine news is just awfull, here in Melb and everywhere else I have seen it.

Peter Hitchiner is a crusty creepy old man! I much prefer the 7 team of peter mitchell, sandy roberts and david brown (who is the only meteorologist on tv!) and Jennifer Keyte and team are great on weekends
Aside from the anchors, 7’s coverage is just so much better, it has better facilities and more staff in newsrooms. And it covers stories with more precision. Nine has just lost rights to use CBS News and another one i can’t remember as part of their resources.
