Live from… well, not Melbourne anymore.

My tv has a built in hard drive recorder, I was just going thru it and remebered I had recorded David Johnston’s last 4.30 news in 2005. Interesting to see how the graphics and slides have changed. I had also forgtten they used a feed of footage of the melb news room for tha backdrop. The plasma screens with the story titles are diff as are the logos on them.There is a lovely montage tribute of David at the end, made by rebecca maddern. Even included footage oh him on Ten Melb and the first 4.30 news and in the old melb set. It was after David said his goodbyes, it was very emotional. Also have a 6pm bulletin from with Jen Keyte and one from early summer 06 with Bec. I miss the city fly over in the opening credits. Interesting to see some of the reporters who are now gone like Jo Stone, Louise Pennel in the US bureau, Jonathan Creek (is he on tt or aca now?), Sally Young (she is now chief of staff and doesn’t do stories anymore), Shan Veivers (dont remember her), Karlee Hooper, and Julia Colauguiri (from the Canberra bureau). What happened to them I wonder? People like Clare Brady, Norm Beamon, Michael Felgate and Dylan Howard are still there. Strange to see what was making news then. And seeing the lovely summer weather.

We too get anchorless updates on weekends, till about 3pm when Chris Bath starts her updates. When Sams on we get updates from about 2pm. Our anchorless updates are also by a voiceover man i’ve never heard before too. I loved David Johnston. I remember missing his last Bulletin due to work, i was so wanting to see his farewell. Though i did see him on Where are they now, along with Jenifer Keyte about a month ago. Any chance of a video on youtube nick? Jo Hall was starting to get the odd presenting gig at times(include 4.30 on al least two occasions) and yes that Jonthan Creek is on ACA i do believe. Nice little article on Samantha Armatage in New Idea this week. Her and Bec at the exact same age, 30! Poor Sam admitted to being embassased when Andrew O’keff told the entire weekend sunrise audience a few months back that she was single and asked for people to sendin their details for her, poor sam. She is a country girl too which i was unawere? Just letting you know, I DON’T read New Idea i just happened to see the article at work when i was processing our magazines deliveries. I’m a Newsagent

Melbourne must be the only Bulletin that doesn’t have the City Flyover anymore. But you do recap all your Headlines at the bottom on the bulletin, which no other city does.

ABC News and SBS World News do it but as I am aware 7 melb is the only commercial news to do it, I do like it but I miss the fly over, tho they were psuhing it with how sold of them were, melb’s skyline changed dramatically over the past few years. Oh I do like Sam, I dont read New Idea either but I have one from a while ago that has an interview with Naomi when she was still presenting tt.

Oh an unfortunately I cannot get the tv to work in conjunction with my lap top so unfortunately no you tube. Along with the David Johnston, Bec and Jen bulletins, I have when Naomi announced she’d be leaving and then her last episdoe, that montage still gets me!

Happen to catch the New Morning show today? I wasn’t able to see it due to school. Did your hear about that creep that had pictures of Naomi on his wall? He was some serial rapist!!! Poor naomi but be a little creeped out.

Bloody Hell!! some loser has gone on to the Seven News wikipedia page and made it trashy. Its so much less detailed and the State news sections rattle of the anchors and fill-in presenters in the most casual way. ‘sometime ….might fill-in” instead of ‘Fill Presenter: Rebecca Maddern’ its really tacky.

Oh dear, it is a real mess. I heard about that rapist, was all over the news here. naomi must have been pretty rattled by that. I was at an exam yesterday so I am watching the morning show for the first time today, interestingly when they cross to Ann Sanders in the newsroom, the back drop behind her is the Melbourne newsroom. 7news 6pm Melb yesterday went all out for the city shooting. Different opening, a montage of footage on the screen behind peter. Several lives crosses and graphics of what happened. ANd a story about the Queens St massacre in 1987. It was very good!

Seven really are on top on things these days. I’ll catch my first morning show tomorrow. Talitha Cummings was reading the news on sunrise this morning, she is really great and one of the youngest there is, only about 26 i think. Correct me if im wrong?

Isn’t she from Brisy? I am not sure of her age. Bec was like 25 when she began at 7.

On 7news Melb tonight during sport Sandy did a live cross to Basil Zemplis in the Perth news set.

Yeah Talitha is the brisy Weather girl, ex-weekdays, now weekends. Very smart girl.

One of friends is a receptionist at a major sydney hotel and he checked in Talitha the other day. Said she was gorgeous.

Wow sam has almost completed an entire week of the 4.30 news for the first time in months. I read an article that suggests that they will pair Chris Bath up at the news desk with Peter ovation. Yuck!!!! Peter Ovation is so over rated. Good reporter ill admit, but not a great presenter. Chris Bath deserves the sole anchor position.

Dont know, got exams all week

Exams are finished for me thank god. the 11.30 is about the same as it was at 10.30. But what a slap in the face to Chris Bath if they team her with someone else. She has earnt her solo role.

Strangely enought, the morning news was using the melb weather graphics oddly enought. That is that the little weather icons are in boxes like the temperatures.

Thats a bit strange? Maybe they prep the weather from melbourne, or are just mainstreaming the weather graphics for both 11.30 & 4.30 news

Samanthat Armytage has been appointed Weekend Sunrise co-host. I like her but we’ll have to see how she goes. She will still be presenting the 4.30 news.

Three jobs, explain? When Ian Ross retires or when the summer period roles around there is gonna be a massive anchor shortage in sydney! Bec is needed in melbourne so wont be able to be in sydney covering for Sam on 4.30 news. Sam needs to cover for Chris Bath on weekends, do 4.30 still and uplate updates! She is going to go through a period of working 7 days a week for a month or more like she did a few months back. Double shifts too, sunday on weekend sunrise and sunday night on seven news sydney. Kyile Gillies can’t fill-in anymore on 4.30 if she is doing the morning news. I see Rosanna Mangerilli (however its spelt) coming to Sydney a lot more in the future. Also imagine is Chris Bath is off and she is weekday anchor! That leaves weekends open to a newcomer! Seven news reporter Sarah Cummings used to read the news here is canberra, so she might the gig? or more of Talitha Cummings would suit be just fine!

By the way, Chris Bath looking very pissed off while reading the news tonight! I fear she knows some bad news that the rest of us don’t, ie Peter Ovaton joining her at the news desk! Poor Chris.

Peter Ovaton…ewww. I don’t care for that. I think the 7Melb execs would be very hesitant to change the anchor situation here because people respond to stability and evidently like the current group, and for good reason. The Sydney execs seem to have the opinion that even if something isn’t broken, they should fix it. E.g. moving the successfull 4.30 news to syd and adding Peter Ovaton. There was and is no need for either change. Clearly the Sydney newsroom hasn’t been giving reporters the chance to move up to the newsdesk. And the Sydney-centric execs are handing out jobs on national shows like sunrise and TMS to Sydney people so they are even more stretched. Talitha Cummings is the Brisy summer newsreader isn’t she? on weekends? their Bec? Dido for Rosanna Mangiarell in Adelaide isn’t it? So they won’t be able to take them. Especially since the Adelaide, Perth and to a lesser extent Brisy newsrooms are much smaller than those in Melb and Syd and would need all hands on deck, especially those they have groomed for anchoring. Aside from Bec, I am not sure who would be next in line. Maybe Mia Greves, I feel she did some anchoring when she was at 9. Maybe Karen O’Sullivan or they could even get Naomi in in a pinch. She did used to anchor the 6pm news here way back when. With someone else, can’t remember his name. Also not sure if it was weekdays or weekends.

Just checked. Naomi presented weekend news bulletins along with late night news and in 1995 presented Seven News at Five in Melb with Peter Ford.

Yes thinks are going to be very streched out over the coming year anchor wise. Talitha was filling in for Bec today on Weekend Sunrise. Poor Bec dipped out to sam again for a Presenting job. She was one of about 14 people who applied for the co-host position on sunrise. Yes Talitha is the summer weekend news reader for Brisbane. She is currrently their weekend weather presenter, moved from weekdays to weekends at the start off the year. I really like her and she is doing a great job on sunrise. They love her and she is funny and ready for a good laugh. Oh by the way, another problem when summer roles around again TT will be short as Anna Coren will have the summer off!! Sam would be the next in line, but … 4.30 news, weekends in sydney and the 4.30 news!! I dont see it all happening. Not to mention she needs her holidays too. As you said Nick, over the summer period it is going to be very hard for them as Talitha, Bec & Rosanna are all needed for their summer roles in their individual States.

They need to bring Sarah Cummings to the news reading position. She was loved in Canberra and does quite a good job, i also liked Aela Callen, but she is now in Canberra.

Im painfully updating and changing the Seven News article on wikipedia and making it better after its crappy state of late. Add to if you feel the need, im putting in lots of detail and using dot points and boxes and making it look quite good.

I’m new to the whole editing of wikipedia on such a large scale so bare with me. I’ll have it done within a few days.

I have done it!! I’ll be twiking a few things over the next few days, i’m hoping someone who knows what they are doing will come in and fix up the contents bit at the top of the page for me, im new to all the editing on that scale and not get it all. I edited updates, update times, update presenter and fill-in presenter to the best of my knowledge. There may be the odd misake but i hope it looks ok, what do you think of the ”Boxes”?? too much? I discovered how to do those by accident too!!

I like it. Seems to be all spot on too. I did add a bit more detail to the melb section.

Bec is doing the news on TMS today. I wonder if she’ll do the morning news too.

I’m guessing thats why she didn’t do sunrise on sunday, coz she is prob doin all week in sydney. Is she still doing melbourne updates? I didn’t catch any of ours.

Some arse munch edited out everything!!! now itsd back to what it was but now has false details. ‘Ann sanders presents updates till about 2pm when the states get voiceover updates’ thats a croc of shit. All states get anchored updates. only on weekends is that the case. Some dick has no idea is screwing up the page.

How frustrating. I would assume that if Bec were on the morning news for the week they’d let her do it from Melb. Didn’t see any updates today, will try and catch one tomorrow.

Yeah i noticed that too, he did the local updates at 7.25 and 8.30, followed by the 9.30 and 10.30 national updates. OOHH! Bec interviewing Mike Amor on the morning news. Thats the first time i have seen them together!!! Ans bec has either had a very late night or see was crying before going to air this morning, her eyes were bloodshoot and watery?

You mean, Peter “i love myself and Queensland should be its own country’ Beatie. His an arogant pig that man! Yeahs its strange that they aren’t letting Bec do the morning news from Melbourne. I think it’s mean, she spends too much time in Sydney as is. Her new busband must hate it. Having her is Sydney over summer for weekend sunrise is going to create problems for Melbourne. She will need to do your weekends over summer, yet still need to do weekend sunrise. Talitha cant do it either, she will be weekend anchor over summer in Qld, same goes for Rosanna in S.A. There is going to be massive anchor shortages accross the network. I mean, they had Bruce McAvaney (however its spelt) doing the sports news on sunrise the other morning, because Ben Damon is filling in for Matthew White on Seven Sydney and then Chris Bath in the late night spot he was unable to fillin as he has in the past. They are going to face massive problems!!!

I must admit I keep forgetting to check! Samantha armytage should be ok with weekends in syd. When bec was doing the 4.3o and weekends over summer she would just have monday and tues off and Jennifer Keyte or Jo Stone would fill in. But There are gunna be probs with weekend sunrise and tt. Sam would be the next logical fill in for anna. I saw Bruce on sunrise, was strange. Ben Damon was doing the 10.30 update again last night.
