Somewhat surprisingly these idents from Irish broadcaster RTÉ Two date all the way back to 2004, which in the world of design seems like decades ago.
And while Irish viewers may very well be sick of them, design wise they’ve stood up to fickle ravages of modernity for nearly four years now, something most on-air looks could only wish for.
These idents were created by Piranha Bar, with 3D and compositing MV75.
– Thanks to Morten for the videos.

Love them! Though I don’t really get the room at the end of them all.
You don’t have the “Conga Line” ident in this collection. That one was pretty good as well.
I actually hate this style of 2D photo animation. It’s just cheap and nasty, often used on crappy TVCs
They’re incredibly good, like almost everything made in 2004!
Hello from Ireland, yes they are very familiar. On the subject of television… ahem… when is the Chasers War starting again?
Gee, I really dislike these idents, especially the music… I am glad we don’t have to watch those here. And to think the viewers of RTE2 have had to endure them for 4 years!
@ Sean
Don’t forget Ireland has continuity announcers as well, I’m assuming this is a clean version.
To Ambrand.com (and any other interested non-Aussies): Due to a combination of a live show touring Australia (The Chaser’s Age of Terror Variety Hour) and legal junk surrounding stuff like APEC, the War is pretty much on hold, and at earliest it will be on later this year.
Yes, Andy is correct, the continuity announcers would generally talk over the entire ident or at least the “green room” half of the ident, so the music generally went unheard. (And now that I can hear it, I say deservedly so.) Examples of actual continuity exist over at The TV Room, or at least used to.
One would perhaps have hoped that other similar idents might have been added in the intervening four years, just to keep the franchise fresh, so to speak, but hey, I don’t run RTE.
they got additional idents last year (SANDCASTLES, ROLLERCOASTER ELEVATORS, SINKS) They had a cometion called THE GREEN ROOM COMITIONgo to http://www.rte.ie/greenroom (it didn’t take off well.
Thanks for that Edmund. Sadly I got HTTP 403 Forbidden errors whenever I tried to open any of the Quicktime movies from that page, but at least they did open it up a bit.
i think these idents are cool but thier nothing like the ch4 idents
I think these are awesome and funny, but you’re missing one – the bowling ident which is on the Piranha Bar website.
I wonder when these idents are going .they have been on for five years now, and they have got so boring.
They now have been on 6 years – they need to go!
There gone! celebrations. RTE TWO got a new look on the 17th of September 2009. The new idents were created by RTE Graphic Design. Go over to http://www.skyidents.piczo.com to watch them!
