Live from… well, not Melbourne anymore.

Watching Monday’s viewing on 7, being Despereate Housewives, Brothers & Sisters, Boston Legal and Scrubs, I saw Rebecca do the 10.30 national update. It is so stupid to make her go to Sydney to fill in when it could just as easily be done in Melbourne. I don’t understand the morning ratings in Melb. Today is the dregs.

Lisa never did it that much for me on weekend sunrise, but oh well… she will prob fall on her arse after 6 months. I think the main reason they make bec go to sydney is because we dont have an afternoon anchor if the 4.30 news comes from melbourne at the moment. With Ian off Chris Bath only starts updates after the 4.30 news. Prob coz oh her son and school etc, she owns them as they let her do almost any hours she wants. She has been know to only come on the air at 5pm on weekends when she is anchoring. Sam is always there by 3.30pm. They somethimes have Sarah Goran our weather presenter to the update at 3.35 if Ian isn’t there. But he is always there for the 4pm update. Who does the melbourne updates in the arvo with bec in sydney?? They need to give another reporter a go at presenting in sydney. Its sad they they have to fly poor bec up from Melbourne to fill in.

I dunno who does it in Melb during the day while bec is in Syd, I am usually at uni. It did used to be Jo Stone, the ex ABC brisbane reporter who got breast cancer from the ABC Bris building, but she has disappeared. She also used to fill in for Bec on the 4.30. I have seen some of the senior reporters do it like Nick Etchells and once when I was at the broadcast cafe in the 7melb building I saw Karen O’Sullivan do it. With Bec in Syd I think 7melb would be a bit understaffed itself cos the senior court reporter, Anastacia Salamastrakis is on maternity. I think Mia Greves, who they poached from 9, she did their arvo updates, sometimes does it. Bec however is their main one. Also reading on Wikipedia, which of coarse isn’t necessarily true, the 10.30 news will be moved to 11am when the morning show starts.

Hope so, Ann rocks. She is the old school sydney news anchor from way back.

We lived in Sydney from 1995 to 2002 and I always loved watchin Ann on the news.

7news sydney was presented by ann and ross symonds until 2003 when the both of them were replaced by roscoe because of low ratings. Ann went on to do weekends, and Ross retired. Ann has since switched with Chris Bath on weekends. I must say 7news melbourne has so many decent reporters[Nick Ethchells, Mia Greves,Rebecca Maddern ] they shit over GTV-9 s reporters. In fact, the only one thats decent at GTV-9 is Nick Coe. Same story here in Adelaide SAS-7 has so many great reoprters[Jessica Adamson, Rosanna Mangiarelli, Mike Smithson, Michelle Vella, Susan Choubour, Deanna Williams] the list goes on. NWS-9 have too many newbies, but i like Sonia Madigan, Allison Sandy, And Ray Mc Ghee. My final rant is about HSV-7 being so much more technologically advanced than GTV-9 , and melbournes NNN is STIll number 1! Just look at the quality of NNN to 7news. NNN just got SSOOOOO crap I switched to the sleeker, cleaner, winning team that is 7news. Man it feels good to get it all out……….

Look I have to agree. Tho the new 7news ads tell me it is Melbourne’s new number 1! The reporters at 7 are great, i love anastacia salamastrakis, her name is so cool! and the state Political reporter, Brenden Donahoe, won the Quill award this year. Plus they have great people like Karen O’sullivan, Kate Osborn, Nick McCallum, Norm Beaman is a perrenial, then there are the new ones like Cyndi Ferguson and Alicia Grabowski, who are still really good. HSV7 is decades ahead of 9 in every respect. Particularly news technology. I switched to 7 in 2004 when i realiesed they were better during the Athens Olympics. That’s when they sent then sport anchor Jim Wilson to athens then replaced him the Beverly O’Connor while he was gone. I like her but she was soon replaced with Sandy Roberts.

Their sports team is better too. People like Michael Felgate and Dylan Howard. I am currently in a psuedo internship programme at the Geelong Advertiser, where Dylan Howard started, he is coming in to speak to our group in the coming weeks.

Missed 4.30 news today. Did Bec host today? if not she should be back for next monday-wednesday.

I dunno, but I don’t think she did because she did a story on our news tonight. On an international skimming scam on Westpac atms in Box Hill.

Yeah, Kyile is doing the news on the thursday and friday. Good to see their not making Sam do weekdays and weekends. They are only working her two day as apossed to 7 or 5. I think they have bec doing the news a few days a week is because Kyile needs the time to prepare etc for the morning show.

I figure you’re talking to me, lol, yes I certainly am studying to be a journo. Already had a couple of articles in the Geelong Addy. Deakin Uni may not be good at much but is very good when it comes to journalism.

Sam is taking it easy this week, she is only working tonight as Sydney as Anchor. Chris Bath has done monday-saturday. Then Sam is off again from the 4.30 news all week with Chris doing the weekdays. Then back on for the weekend. When peter is away in melb, who fills in? Does jen go to weeknights and bec to weekend? or bec goes straight to weekdays and jen does just weekends?

In summer Jen, tim watson (sport) and Rob Gell (weather) go straight to weekdays and Bec does weekends with Michael Felgate on sport. If peter is having time off jen does weekdays and bec weekends and the rest stay put. I am not sure what happens if peter is sick, I can’t remember it happening. And if jen is having some time off bec does weekends.

Cool, in sydney Sam has done weekdays before, she was responsibile for a rating surge over the summer 05- 06. Thats what leed her to the big time roles.

Havent seen much of Sam lately

I think Ann Sanders is going on holidays, in her sign off today she said “see you in a few weeks with the news after the start of 7’s new morning show.” I wonder who’ll be filling in for her. Sam was doing the afternoon news on wednesday at least. My 1st semester classes finished yesterday so I’ll be able to keep up with it more often now.

Sam did 4.30 monday to wednesday. She is in th chair over the weekend in sydney. I think that Bec will probably be doing the 11.30 news because Sam will be back doing the 4.30 as of next week. Though, because she is doing the news over the weekend she may only do three days on 4.30 news. With Kyile moving into the role of Morning show co-host as well as remaining in the position of ‘acting’ co-host of weekend sunrise, i dont see her doing much news anchoring anymore. I doubt that Simon Reeve will be filling in either, he really as gone down the charts in terms of news anchors, the fact they would rather bring Bec up from melbourne is really saying something. The Morning news is going to air at 11.30am as of monday. They are putting a preschool styled show in the 11am position. It will be interesting to see how the 11.30 edition rates, it will be in direct competition with Tens news.

Wow – We just had a seven news sydney promo that had Bec in it. It was the one they have for chris bath and samantha armatyage when they anchor. It was after the 10.30 update, it had bec in a white top and black jumper type thing. She was standing infront of the harbour bridge. That must mean that Bec is anchoring in sydney this wekend????? But Chris Bath said that sam would be in the chair over the weekend at the end of the news tonight?

Oh well that is the end of the 4.30 news! Rob FUCKING Elliot! What the FUCK? Just because Larry Emdur hosts the mosning show and Andrew O’keefe weekend sunrise doens’t mean I want a game show host doing the news. Will Adrianne Exzenities (or however u spell it, from wheel) be replacing Ann Sanders next? And Daryl Sommers doing Melbourne’s 6pm news? I seriosuly hope what I assume is wikipedia has got that wrong. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE 7 bring it bak to melb and put bec back in charge, so it can return to when it was respectible. And before it turns into a variety show!

I can’t stand Michael Usher on 9 and I will not watch the “Afternoon Edition” but by putting Rob Elliot on the 4.30 it seems 7 doesn’t want viewers but I will watch nothing before Rob Elliot!

The Sunday Herald Sun is reporting today that Rebecca Maddern has been appointed full time weekend sunrise newsreader, exec producer adam boland described her as one of the best talents the network has. She will fly up to Sydney every week like Andrew O’Keefe.

Well thank FUCK someone can make a good choice about hosting, wait is Kyile still hosting and Bec doin news or Bec hosting? So who does what? i’m at work when its on.

She is at that. I was saddened to read that 7 has chosen not to pick up Naomi’s show for the time being. They were very happy with it and it was received very well by “all and sundry” however they don’t wanna launch 2 new daytime shows at the same time and there are some budget constraints for this year. Poor Naomi. Meanwhile, very impressed with the coverage of the Vic train wreck. 7 did a good job but did not do a live cross, i feel they had technical difficulties because they played a proper story from the scene at the end of the bulletin. 7 were also the first to break that the death toll was then at 10. SBS at 6.30 were still saying 8.

We had a live cross in sydney lol. We had quite a few melbourne stories. There was one from that Mia Greves.

Oh cool, what was it about? The problem must have been at the Melb studio then. Was the Kerang cross to Peter Morris? We did have one to Trent Evans at Essendon airport where the casualties were arriving. Bec and the Morning news’ coverage this morning was great. The melb newsroom must be so short handed not only cos Bec is in Syd and Anastacia Salamastrakis is on maternity but Norm Beamon is in Athens for the mokbel thing. That is 3 of their most senior reporters out of Melb.

Yeah we had live to Peter Morris then a pre-record to Trent with mabye 10 mins max of a delay . The Mia Greves story was something lite if i remember right…i just remember hearing her name. Is there news service suffering because of lack of news reporter, they prob have more then one report from the same reporter. That happened in Brisbane when i was up there. They had the fill-in reporter that night doing the leading two stories, quite cheap really ??? I have a feling Bec is going to move to sydney sometime in the future. She is becoming a regular up here, she is even getting her own promos. She will do the opposite, live in syndey – commute to melbourne. But when in melbourne it is nice to see a good news reader.

I have never seen a reporter do more than one story a night on 7. Ten do it a bit here. There were one or two fill in reporters in during the week however. I feel Bec will stay here since her husband lives here. She married a fellow geelongian last year. And she is still quite prominant on 7news here. She has just clearly been bumped up to fill in network anchor which is nice. When Ann is back there will be no need for her full time. It must be a slap in the face to the senior syd reporters that they fly up someone from melb to fill in anchoring for sydney’s news. 7’s coverage of the mokbel arrest and kerang crash today was outstanding. we had live crosses to norm beaman in athens, peter moriss in kerang. plus a really cool story from nick etchells who had graphics etc from the crash. and they put up special backdrops on the screen instead of the skyline for both stories.

If all reports are correct Chris Bath is due to get a slap on the face !!! The reports suggest that Peter Ovaton (Nine, 60 mins) will take the anchor position when Ian Ross retires this year. Chris Bath who has been with the network for i think almost 2 decades (correct me if wrong?) would be devastated. She is a VERY well know presenter on seven, and to Seven Sydney more! She has filled in Ian Ross for the past weeks now and is filling in this week for him because his sick. Hence the Fact that Sam will be doing the weekend edition in Sydney because Chris has been doin the week days. Thats why she wasn’t on the 4.30 news today, but they didn’t replace her with Kyile or have Bec do double shift, they had someone i have never seen before do it!!! Rosanna Mangiarelli who is an Adelaide reporter. She presented quite well and it was a good news bulliten.

I have my own theory as to whats going on. I think that Chris Bath will move into weekdays, Sam into weekends and they will have a new 4.30 news reader, either Rob Elliot, god forbid!!!! or Rosanna Mangiarelli

The 4.30 news was still out of sydney too, There was some loser on Australian- Media the other day who said “the news is so much better since its coming out of melbourne with bec this week” and went on to talk about the quality of it. I knew you would like that nick, considering its still out of sydney.

Preparing Sydney quality news to that of Melbourne would have made you pissed off i’d imagine Nick?

It has been better this week since all the major stories were from melb reporters! and Bec on the morning news is great but it still falls short in my eyes. I didn’t get to see the 4.30 news today, hopefully I will tomorrow. I think Bec goes back to melb after the 10.30, she has been doing our daytime updates still. At the Geelong Advertiser “hotshots” program thing I do we had Dylan Howard come speak to us. He is the 7melb sports editor and started at the addy. it was really good, he was great.

Sounds cool! So Bec is doing your updates from Sydney then i take it? Also have you heard back from Seven in regard to the letter you wrote?? Be sure to watch the 10.30 update to catch Rosanna Mangiarelli. See is the hot topic on the Aust-media website today. There is nothing but praise for her so far.

Oh I missed that too! Damn repeats of family guy, if it were new I would’ve been watching. I did just see a clip of her on Australian-media. she was very good, very well spoken. Dylan Howard was telling us they have a presentation coach come in about 3 times a year to help all the reporters and presenters.

HA HA! Seven Morning News this week has been out of Melbourne! The set is clearly different from Sydney’s in that it is wider, there are reading lights on the front of the desk and there is no giant 7 logo above the set. Also the picture and audio quality, when you are looking at it, are better. Also our weather graphics are slightly different, the little weather picture logos are in boxes whereas they aren’t in Syd. I think Bec is hosting again next week and if she is it will prob still be out of Melb. Which also explains why she is still doing our day time updates, cos she is still here.

Not this week anyway. Definately Melbourne. When it is at News Central, the studio has a 2nd story roof so they have that huge 7 logo which the Melb studio does not. Ours is also wider. And under live crosses it said News centre rather than central. This Rosanna Mangiarelli is very good. I like her more than Sam or Kylie. I like that well spoken Adelaide pronounciation. She is also very pretty.
