I have to admit I’m not that big of a soccer fan, but if SBS’s enthusiasm is anything to go by its hard not to resist its lure. The network has gone all out for the World Cup, and why wouldn’t they, its got to be the most exciting quadrennial event the station gets to air, and the craziest ratings month they are likely to see until South Africa hosts it in 2010.

SBS totally rebranded its on air presentation for the World Cup and these are the new idents they’ve been running.

SBS must be stoked that Australia got through! heard on the radio that the pulled 3 million viewers nation wide for monday nights game! anyway, cool indents, not a huge soccer fan either but, Australia is playing so GO AUSSIE GO!!!!!!

Is that the sound of a whole nation finally jumping on the bandwagon I can hear…?!

To be fair to SBS, they’ve been supporting football for so long and have done so much to build the game in Australia. I think FIFA recognise that, which is why they’ve got the rights to the next 2 World Cups as well as this one… while Football Australia need the money that Fox Sports can give them and have awarded all Australia’s games outside the World Cup to them. If Australia get as far as they deserve with their potential with it’s resulting increase in popularity then it’ll be a shrewd move from Fox Sports…
