Going against all tradition and cliche, the BBC have created one hell of a Winter Olympics promo. No blue ice, no slow motion athletes, and no gold medals.
It’s the Persepolis of Winter Olympics promos and I love it.

Shockingly this arrangement is from Michael Buble’s Cry Me a River! It’s a superb follow up to the the BBC’s Beijing promo. I hope they give something equally superb for London 2012.
I love that it manages to include curling! An epic 40 seconds, beautifully done.
There is a 60-second version knocking around on YouTube, whilst a slightly shorter version, with the bright Olympic colours in the background formed the titles for the games.
And two weeks on – still not sure whether I love it or loathe it. Glad they finally ditched the Ski Sunday tune, and defo an improvement on the 2002 and 2006 titles – but not the excellent 1998 titles.
I was never a huge fan of the Beijing monkey though and come London I’d like to see a step away from these animated sequences and actually something a bit more traditional – but strikingly modern at the same time.
On the subject of major sporting events, have you seen the BBC’s World Cup trailer?

(Shame the agency didn’t upload it in HD though…)
