Comparing the opening titles of the original Kath and Kim to the American remake, its clear this isn’t going to be a line-for-line remake. Most importantly though, for the millions of American’s who will meet Kath and Kim for the first time this Thursday on NBC, I think they might just enjoy themselves.

The pilot made its pre-air debut on iTunes not long ago. All you need to do to download a copy if you’re outside of the States, is get yourself an iTunes account.

I wish they’d left K&K alone. I just know they’re going to mess it all up. They’ll never beat the wedding episode from series 1! 😀

I have to agree with Sean O’Brien. There is no reason to ‘remake’ Kath and Kim. I was sickened to see it happening.

I can see K&K USA being a reversal of Ugly Betty and grossly commercial. The good folks in the US just don’t have the same sense of humour as Aussies/NZ or UK. Look at the office what a train wreak and now they’re going to kill little brittain too! when will they learn? Sure they’ll tiz K&K up with pretty titles but they just don’t get that giving everything squeaky finishes just doesn’t add to it quite the opposite. And I really just don’t think the US (TV execs. As surely not all Americans are the same) understand tongue in cheek comedy at all!

@ Tez, while I agree with what you’re saying and Little Britain USA is awful, you can’t say the same about The Office USA which is now superior to the original.

Folks like we all said, yep the yanks stuffed K&K! and after only airing two episodes channel 7 has done us all a favour and pulled it from air!

i am canadian and the first time i heard of kath and kim was by watching the american version. it was different and a little funny. One day i was browsing the internet and i found out about the Australian Kath and Kim and I must say I fell in love after the first episode. It is hilarious, the Americans really should’nt ruin it, they should just let it be. I know that the best form of flattery is imitation but there’s also the phrase that goes “if it ain’t broken then don’t fix it.

the US version simply massacred the Aussie – as was expected. The show is completely character-driven, and although Selma & Molly have done other great things – this just ain’t one of ’em. Glitzy, glamorous and just not real. Hollywood garbage.

On another note – both the US and UK version of The Office work for me, probably because Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant had a hand in both.

If you like these shows, you may also enjoy Extras and The IT Crowd (both UK) ENJOY!
