That Earl one was quite good! Was it specially made?

I think they are great! Especially the Earl one. I imagine it was specially made since when they buy a US programme it would be in the contract that they can make promos with the stars, like their “It’s all Here” ones with the Lost and Grey’s Anatomy stars and the “What do you love?” ones with Desperate Housewives and Ghost Wisperer stars. I love Naomi, the same promo is on with her in Melb, except it has Southgate and Crown as the backdrop. It is similar to the actual ads for tt, which is made in Melb. We also have a “Thanks for watching 7″ promo with our news anchor Peter Mitchell.

They are a far cry from 9′s “new” cheap look, and their “You’re watching Channel Nine” slogan. Well thanks 9, you didn’t need to tell me I knew already from your sub par news and current affairs, poorly made local programming and badly scheduled US shows.

‘sub par news and current affairs, poorly made local programming and badly scheduled US shows’

    As opposed to Seven?

    Sigh!

yes as apposed to 7! 9news and ACA are leagues behind their rivals, 9 couldn’t programme its way out of a paper bag! eg. The Closer, scheduled tuesdays at 9 following Dancing on Ice (there is a poorly made local) which bombed, and who changes over at 9pm anyway? Then a “special ep” the next night at 9.30, all well and good, and tune in next week at the same time, well the next week it was not on despite being in the TV guide for that day and it has been dumped after 3 weeks! They also started on episode 9 then went to 11 then 12! So you have no idea who anyone is. They never let any show grow or develop, and the closer has broken viewer records in the US. And what happened to The New Adventures of Old Christine, after 3 weeks it is gone! Yet Two and A Half Men is still on, which was described in a free Geelong paper (so not the intelligencia of journalism) as being so bad it travels back in time and erases any trace of a promising career Charlie Sheen once had! TOO RIGHT! And what about McLoud’s Daughters! It stinks! And the Eddi-fication of everything, he’s trying to turn everything into the footy show. While on 7 we have the Dancing with the Stars and It takes Two, both have production values that make 9 look like 1980′s RAI (Italy). They kept Commander in Chief on Monday’s after Desperate Housewives despite the ratings halving and it killing their night. They only stopped showing it when they ran out of episodes, and what about You May Be Right, despite not finding an audience in the first weeks they are letting it run and are taping more. Yet people will still turn to 9, to be treated badly and be dished up whatever crap 9 feels like screening, meanwhile the rest of us watch 7 and are treated with the respect we deserve! Thanks For Watching SEVEN!

Funny how Seven (and, to a lesser extent, Nine) are thanking us for watching – especially when they fuck around with us a lot.

How can you say that Eddie McGuire is turning everything into the footy show? There were only 2 occasions where the footy show was used to take advantage of a situation (the miners and world cup), as for dancing on ice, it may be poorly made but it hasn’t bombed out, it will be back next year, it hasn’t rated as much as say dancing with the stars but it certinally has support, most of the dribble against Eddie is a result of the Sydney media having a thing against him. The problems at nine at the moment were there as a result of Sam Chisholm before Eddie took over.
I will admit the news department is shicking at nine at the moment but you can’t tell me Today Tonight is better than ACA (they are both crap) but still…
How about Celeb Survivor on Seven hows that for poorly made?…

    reply

  9. 9 Phil

You guys have “Celeb Survivor”? Wow that really gives me a reason to move down under!

Commercial television in general aren’t driven by content quality. They only work on what they can bank on of course. So it doesn’t matter if it’s “crappy” 9 or “fuckable” 7. They’re revenue-driven regardless.

    reply

  10. 10 Andy OZ

I find it hard to understand how anyone could actually support a commerical station and defend it, given the contempt they have for their viewers.

Channel 7 is not exactly a noble organisation!

Oh, and Nick, it might interest you to know that ACA now beats TT. So much for your argument on that front!

    reply

  11. 11 Nick Renwick

It doesn’t actually. Nationally thy are close but 7 usually wins the week, due mostly to the huge support 7 has in Perth and Adelaide. I don’ think celeb survivor is poorly made, it looks the same as the others. Dancing on Ice’s ratings are down to around a million, i would find it hard to believe they have renewed it.

The “My Name Is Earl” ID *wasn’t* specially-made – the shots at 2 and 6 seconds are from the show itself, the Seven TV Guy Thing was added in, and that’s the worst sound-alike of Jason Lee I’ve ever heard saying “Sorry, little buddy” (you’ll hear that sound-alike in a few of the ads for the show, too).

Andy OZ and Nick Renwick – do either of you happen to work for either Seven or Nine?

    reply

  13. 13 Andy OZ

I don’t work for either. And I hate both NINE and SEVEN.

    reply

  14. 14 Nick Renwick

No, i do not work for either, I’m with Andy, I hate 9, but i love 7. I am one who really likes tv, and having watched a lot i have developed an affinity for 7. I am commencing a bachelor of media and communication next year with the hopes of ending up at 7 in the long run.
