Thanks to Dan from Proud Creative for sending me their latest creation, in collaboration with Universal Everything the new, and stunning idents for Sianel Pedwar Cymru, thats Channel Four Wales or simply S4/C.

According to Universal Everything the concept revolves “around the idea of magnetism and the invisible patriotic energy which binds Welsh people together”, and while thats a big idea to try to represent in just 20 seconds, I think its the kind of thing idents should be about.

Channels should impossibly strive to reflect the society and culture in which they broadcast, not just promote other shows on the network. Idents can be art, and S4C’s latest prove that. If I were Welsh I would be proud (no pun intended) to frame my television viewing through these elegantly created vignettes.

Update: Watch the making of these idents in the video below.

The Theatre of News meets Dead Ringers

In the first video Dead Ringers pokes fun at all the standing-up-and-walking-around that goes on ITV’s Theatre of News, the second video is from the actual ITV News where just as much standing-up-and-walking-around goes on, although slightly less dancing.

I’m really surprised that none of Australia’s television networks have copied this approach to news yet, most of our commercial news is so trashy now anyway, it might as well have fancier sets and more camera swoops.

For more standing up mockery check out Melanie Bellamy and her standing news, or watch Jeremy Clarkson do his best impression of the Channel Five news.

More video from the real ITV lunchtime and evening news continue after the jump…

More of Dead Ringers’ take on the idents of the United Kingdom. The first video is actually Dead Ringers own creation of a BBC One ident, and not just a voice over like usual (I tried to think of some BBC One/Number 2 joke but you get the idea).

Check out last weeks here.

The genres of the ABC: National News

The first new addition to the awesome ABC1 “genres” collection since it launched earlier this year is a National variant on the already existing International version relating to the ABC’s news services.

Its great to see such sensitivity being taken with the expansion of this collection, each one of the now six idents is brilliantly executed, and they haven’t rushed to make a thousand different versions, the quality is great and I look forward to seeing what the next addition will be. (I’m still gunning for a “there’s more to.. podcasting”, something to play at the start of all their downloadable content).

Thanks to this comment from Sam at zspace I’m able to clear up some self induced confusion. The above three idents are part of a new Cross Platform collection created for the ABC, and are separate to the now christened “Genre” collection (still my favourite Australian idents).

All round brilliant stuff from both collections, and the best the ABC has looked in my (albeit short) living memory. And, if there’s anymore to come they’ll end up on this post.

Its been a good six weeks since I got back from France, and although I didn’t record much while I was there a French reader of the blog has been nice enough to send some stuff my way.

I’ve already featured some video from the bilingual network ARTE, and now some stuff from France Cinq, whose motto is la chaîne de la connaissance et du savoir (the knowledge and science network), which probably sums up what its all about.

Not content with just mocking the idents, Dead Ringers went a step further and deconstructed the new BBC Two idents as part of special investigation parodying the current affairs show Panorama.

The Chaser also took a jab at the new ABC idents here.
