Thanks to this comment from Sam at zspace I’m able to clear up some self induced confusion. The above three idents are part of a new Cross Platform collection created for the ABC, and are separate to the now christened “Genre” collection (still my favourite Australian idents).

All round brilliant stuff from both collections, and the best the ABC has looked in my (albeit short) living memory. And, if there’s anymore to come they’ll end up on this post.

It’s interesting to see that the ABC advertise their shops. The BBC has never once mentioned the few shops that they have (ok they’re owned by BBC Worldwide but so is the Radio Times and they’re advertised!). The first I heard of them was a few weeks ago when they announced they were going to be closed!

ABC Shops seem to be far more successful than BBC Shops. The ABC has over 40 shops, whereas I believe the BBC had only 8?

Andy OZ does have a point. From the BBC Shop website (http://www.bbcshop.com/scat/usefulinfo#aboutbbcshop): “BBC Shop currently has seven retail stores, 3 in London – TV Centre, W12; Margaret Street, W1; Bush House, WC2, plus stores in Belfast, Tunbridge Wells, Norwich and Kingston.”

Still, I prefer the Cross-Platform ones to the Genre idents (the music’s great). Just imagine if zspace had a go at, say, an ABC News opener! 😀
