My first New Zealand related post! These two idents come from TV2, which is part of the state-owned TVNZ corporation. And while it is a public broadcaster, TVNZ accepts advertising, which along with other commercial activities makes up 90% of the networks revenue.

A look at the channels line up draws immediate parallels to the Seven Network in Australia, except for Scrubs actually being in prime time (which makes it even more embarrassing that JD doesn’t know where New Zealand is), and the anomaly that resulted in NZ somehow broadcasting episodes of Men In Trees before the US.

– Thanks to the whole TVNZ team for supplying the videos.

Channel 4 relaunched the branding of its digital sibling E4 last Monday with five new idents and a refreshed on-air look. Above are four of the new idents (will post the fifth when I find it). The concept needs a bit of explanation, but unlike some other idents, these seem to make some sense. Basically they are meant to;

transform a typically British scene – such as a barn, a beach hut or a hotel – into a “deranged E4 space” where the “weird and wonderful colourfully unfolds”

Thats the word from the networks senior producer anyway. Whatever they are meant to be, they will probably appeal to the networks target audience, and really can a network that plays this much free-to-air Scrubs be all that bad? An example of a new look promo is after the jump, so..

The Emmy’s aired last night here in Australia, and while it was your usual awards show fare, I thought a few moments were worth sharing…

In order of video above we have; a Family Guy musical tribute to the current state of television (Scrubs fans watch out); the cast of The Office making fun of Steve Carell; Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert talking global warming; and finally the uncensored version of Sally Fields bizarrely censored acceptance speech.
