Nice! I was wondering when SBS would start doing 7 billion! And an aside, thank you so much for this website, I really do think idents are an artform that is so very overlooked. I’m incredibly thankful that I can see them here!

infoMania was a brilliant programe. Yes, was. What you didn’t touch upon in this blog was the fact that this ‘new’ style Current TV meant that infoMania was axed.

As someone from the UK, I personally still enjoyed it (maybe that’s beacause I’ve researched a lot of American culture) so that shows how great it was.

Of course, the show hasn’t been as good since Conor Knighton left and the show went to a full studio, but it shouldn’t have been axed – not yet anyway.

I agree, I think SBS have some of the most artful idents I’ve seen anywhere.

On that note – what ever happened to the SBS “Shadowland” idents that were used sometime around the late nineties / early 2000′s. I thought they were absolutely stunning.

The director of those idents went on to make a short film in the same style “The Mysterious Explorations of Jasper Morello”, but it seems all trace (online) of the beautiful idents he did for SBS have been lost.

Does anyone out there have a copy to post?

Wow, ABC’s branding is getting way better. It’s not perfect, but at least it’s on target. Simple design and big fonts, easy for kids to read. I wasn’t sure at first, but that logo looks awesome in 3D.

The supers look a little ugly, but all in all the package is pretty great – it really suits the brand.

The “2″ logo reminds me of TVE2 logo during the 90s to 2008, especially in the color

My cable company was one of the first to get OWN at sign-on. I’m sure there was already a built-in audience for it here that prevented the need to ask for it later, but a friend I know already doesn’t like watching it outside the few movies they play due to it’s pandering intentions. I already opted to use the term “OWN’d” to describe it’s presence!

I actually like this. They’re now like idents for a commercial network, which I think is a good thing as the ABC has been trailing behind for many years. It’s simple, different and it works.

As a public broadcaster. there is always much to be had from a minimalist, clean look. It’s called taste. I wouldn’t want the BBC to be all garish, for example. You expect a certain level of quality and standards from a national public broadcaster.

Much, much better than the previous 3D + Verdana look, though the new 1 looks ugly. About time they switched the watermark, however – the updated version looks better.

And yeah, while the idents do seem a little generic, the typography and animation are at a much higher standard than previous years. I don’t mind the sliding text either (eg. on the signposts and promos). I wish they did away with the horrendous horizontal logo though…

all very well for the ABC to clam these as new image, but last night the image did not have ABC, just number and the logo.

Also perhaps every Channel should be made to reduce their size – eg WIN is huge and/or fade them out from time to time.

The ABC1 logo is an improvement over its previous incarnation.

Daphne, are you aware that the ABC is a public broadcaster?
They don’t have a lot of spare money to throw at idents which serve no commercial purpose at all.
