Eleven minutes! They talked about The Chaser on Today Tonight tonight for eleven whole minutes. The story basically “revealed” that some of the show is set-up (oh for reals?, because I figured Anthony Mundine hung around Mosque’s all day).

Anyway, there’s no need to defend The Chaser, no one whose ever watched the show will have learned anything new from the story. And Anna Coren questioning how much the ABC spends on the show is a joke, how much does Seven spend on you Anna?

In summary; it’s Simpsonicaly funny, its on ABC tonight at 9pm, or download it here.

It’ll probably be too late for the boys to say something on this week’s (June 13th) show, but they’ll HAVE to say something on their last show ’til September next week.

Pre-recorded, but certainly more interesting than T-T’s extremely condensed version (Peter Meakin, what a piss-head…)

Nah, they knew about it well in advance (since they are in it).

haha it just proves how stupid TT really is! And I bet teh chasers are lapping up the free advertising. Of course most of those stunts are pre-planned… otherwise theyd all be in jail quick smart and the ABC legal team would be working overdrive!

The lamest “news” story I have ever seen. Who cares if it’s set-up? If people find it funny, what the hell does it matter if it’s a set-up? It’s hardly national outcry! It’s just like the way Today Tonight reports about bullshit and people still watch it. I bet you anything most of their stories are set-up. It looks like the joke is on TT. I’d be embarrased if we had a “current-affairs” show (if that’s what it’s branded as) like this in the UK. Envy is such a strong thing.

James Thomas seems bitter about the Chaser treatment :D , honestly, its the Chaser, how do you expect them to react? It’s obvious they see TT and ACA as the lowest form of “journalism”, and so asking to go behind the scenes in some puff-piece is just asking for the Chaser to take the piss…

But honestly, that was such a low piece, even for Today Tonight. Chas summed it up well: “We only do *legal* things”, yet TT still berate them for not going out and getting arrested. Hasn’t it occurred to Anna Coren that if the Chaser was doing illegal stunts, then they could be arrested, and have to use up even *more* of the taxpayers’ money in fighting lawsuits? It’s completely nonsensical to be winging about how much ABC spends on the Chaser — because if they were fighting lawsuits every week, then they’d be spending even MORE.

And what the hell was up with the guy saying “90% of the Chaser is fake!”, no, it isn’t, only the extreme stuff they can get arrested for isn’t (remember what happened with the bulldogs incident? When it was real, they still get bagged by the media — can they do anything right?)

Honestly, what the big deal if they don’t do illegal stunts? If they were, ACA and TT would be bitching about that, and because they aren’t, ACA and TT still are bitching about it.

and like John said in the blog post, they “revealed” that the Anthony Mundine and Sheik Al Hilali was a setup. ORLY? It never crossed my mind…

I wish you would all leave Anna Coren alone, get a life and find something else to bitch about, not only is Anna a fantastic journalist but she is smart, kind, friendly and very intelligent, not to mention absolutely gorgeous. I think she has been doin a great job since taking over TT from naomi robson, Anna is an amazing person with plenty of talent. I have met her in the flesh as you wld be hard pressed to meet a nicer more genuine person than her so back the hell off ok.

How can Today Tonight and A Current Affair make all these reports on how mean the Chaser’s are and then turn around and say that all their stunts are set-up?
I make no sense. But its true like you guys said. Current affairs shows are trying to use the Chaser’s publicity to get viewers, because all THIER stories are so friggin lame that no body watches them. The they try to strike back after they get ripped in ‘What Have We Learned From A Current Affairs This Week?’

The teleprompter is FAR less stupid which makes me think Anna must write it…And for Christ’s sake people…WHY AREN’T YOU WATCHING SHARK ON SEVEN AT 9.30MONDAYS. IT IS BRILLIANT COURT ROOM AFFAIR. STANDOFF TOO, TUESDAYS 10.30 ALSO ON SEVEN IS SHARPLY WRITTEN, PACEY AND WELL ACTED. DAMN YOU PEOPLE!

Hey I know I am way behind the times here but I just watched this TT episode again….did anyone else think that the part with James Thomas holding the coffee (filmed before he met Chas) saying “we expect a set up” was actually filmed *after* the incident….and they just plonked the coffee in his hand to make it look like it was filmed earlier (seeing that’s what he was holding when he first saw Chas)?…I mean how often do TT reporters do their stories holding beverages?
