Well, my birthday has come and gone, now lets focus on something a bit more interesting..

It’s not an ident, but it is my birthday.

Somewhere between starting and finishing my degree, I got totally disenchanted with advertising. I still love brands and logos, but I think it was when I stumbled onto idents that I felt I’d found something with a bit more credibility to it.

Don’t get me wrong, I still get excited by some ads, and it was the music that first caught my attention in this Sony ad. The song is a cover of The Knife’s ‘Heartbeats’, sung by José González (if you haven’t heard the original its excellent too). I love the simple premise of the advert and its brilliantly executed.

What have we learned from current affairs this week?

I finally got around to watching the first episode of the new ABC show ‘The Chaser’s War on Everything’ from last friday night.

This clip is of Chas and Andrew looking at what Today Tonight and A Current Affair have been up to.

You sit up here, and you read the bloody autocue!

Words can’t really describe my contempt for shows like Today Tonight, and you’re either going to agree or disagree with me… they pander, incite misguided anger, give misguided hope, and above all waste 60 minutes of primetime television every night.

I don’t claim to be a journalist (and my minor in journalism hardly qualifies me), but I can’t comprehend how any legitimate journalist could happily work for Today Tonight or A Current Affair.

(And if you haven’t heard it already, here is Naomi’s rant.. language warning)

Even Media Watch got a run on Today Tonight earlier this month, the above video is Attard’s response during last nights show.

These little 4 second pieces have been popping up just as a program goes to commercial on Ten (more succinctly known as breakbumpers), there seem to be a quite a few variations of them, most with people I didn’t recognise (Neighbours people I’m guessing).

The ABC continue to make excellent promo’s for the West Wing, but this time they’ve gone all out and made a “There’s more to..” ident for the show as well.

The show starts Thursday February 23 at 9.30pm, and according to the ABC;

A major overseas addition to ABC TV’s program lineup is the multi award-winning US drama The West Wing which starts screening this month on ABC Television, the channel many of its Australian fans have always considered to be its rightful home.

Network Ten’s refresh has kind of caught me off guard, but I’m slowly getting more videos together, this one is their new signposts (is that the right word?).

Attard has taken over from Jackson this year on Media Watch and while its the same theme music, and follows a similar idea, its a whole new set of faces, and a whole new set.

I posted video of last seasons opener here.

Things have been changing over at Ten, and I know this isn’t the biggest of changes, but I thought it was interesting.
